Creative’s Zii Egg Plaszma Head on with the iPod Touch with Android...

Creative has been putting out reasonably priced competition to Apple’s line of iPods for years, but now they are going after the venerable iPod Touch with the ludicrously named Creative Zii Egg Plaszma: a touchscreen device boasting the world’s first “flexible StemCell architecture” that uses 24 floating point processors. But more interestingly? It runs Android.

It’s being seeded to developers now at the SDK price of $399, with final units expected to come in at bulk for $199. But there’s reason for end consumers to be happy: The Android-friendly touchscreen device has a 3.5 inch 320 x 480, 10 point capacitive multitouch screen, a rear facing HD video camera, a front facing live chat VGA camera, 32GBs of internal storage with an SDHC card expansion slot, Flash Lite support, GPS, Wi-Fi and the ability to output 1080p video.

The Zii Egg Plaszma has the option to run the open Android OS, although it will ship with its own Plaszma OS that will be less interesting to all but the utterly ludditical. It’s a gorgeous device, but like most of Creative’s entries, it’s likely to be ignored in favor of Apple’s iPod Touch and iPhone.

Microsoft's "Gazelle" browser detailed...

if you're particularly attuned to tech gossip, you'll know that Google's Chrome OS announcement has prompted a lot of whispers about something called "Gazelle" being cooked up in Microsoft's labs. Part browser, part OS, the word on the street is that Gazelle will be announced soon, and ultimately compete in some way with either Chrome (the browser) or Chrome (the OS). As usual, most of this is just based on hopes and fairytales, but the scholarly folks at Ars Technica have done some digging and come up with a white paper from Microsoft Research that details some of what Gazelle is all about -- and surprise surprise, although it shares some similarities with Chrome, it's actually quite different.

At the most general level, Gazelle is an experiment in building an ultrasecure browser. Like Chrome, it breaks tasks up into different processes, but instead of separating at the page level, Gazelle breaks individual page elements into different processes, allowing content from different servers to be isolated and ultimately providing fine-grained security controls. To manage all these different processes, there's a central "kernel," which is where all the OS talk stems from -- it's all still running on Windows, and the rendering engine is still IE's Trident engine, but Gazelle manages all those separate processes independently, kind of like a virtualized OS. It's certainly interesting stuff, but it's still all just a research project for now -- Chrome OS is still vapor, but it's clear that Google intends to ship something, while Gazelle seems more suited to inspire future versions of IE.

Super Talent Ships New Line of Flash Disk Modules...

Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today began shipping a new line of IDE flash disk modules (FDMs), primarily developed for embedded computing applications, that deliver unmatched reliability and fast transfer speeds.

These FDMs, also known as disk on module (DOM), are made first and foremost for extreme reliability in embedded computing applications. They incorporate a standard IDE hard drive interface and use solid state NAND flash as the storage media. With no moving parts, these FDMs will have a very long worry-free usable life in harsh manufacturing environments where hard drives would not survive, such as areas exposed to high levels of dust, shock, vibration or extreme temperatures. Super Talent included wear leveling, ECC and bad bit management as standard features to further enhance reliability and endurance.

Google Chrome Operating System - Coming Soon...

Google Chrome has always been a little more den a browswer it's optimized for running web applications, each tab runs as a separate process, the interface is minimalistic and there's even a task manager. "We realized that the web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser. What we really needed was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for web pages and applications, and that's what we set out to build," said google in September 2008.

Google's blog announces a natural extension of the Chrome project an operating system for netbooks. "Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. (...) Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel."

As people use more and more web applications, the operating system becomes less important and it makes no sense to pay for it. The desktop mail client could be replaced by Gmail, the calendaring application could be replaced by Google Calendar, the office suite has lightweight alternatives: Google Docs and Zoho, it makes more sense to use an online feed reader like Google Reader, your scientific calculator is less powerful than Wolfram Alpha and you'll rarely need a video player when you have YouTube, Hulu and other video sites.

This idea is not new and there are already operating systems optimized for the browser. For example, Good OS announced last year Cloud, an operating system that "integrates a web browser with a compressed Linux operating system kernel for immediate access to Internet, integration of browser and rich client applications, and full control of the computer from inside the browser". If Google manages to create a great user interface, the new operating system could be very successful

HiPhone F06-Slim Clones BlackBerry Storm...

The WiFi + TV phone is the best HiPhone yet. Fortunately, it also clones one of the best looking phones around, and I don’t mean it’s an iPhone clone. The BlackBerry Storm form factor is a breath of fresh air on the HiPhone F06-Slim WiFi TV phone. You heard right, TV and WiFi (we rechecked and it appears WiFi TV doesn’t exactly mean it has WiFi). From the 3.2-inch touchscreen, the dual-stand-by dual-SIM to the Internet on-the-go via WLAN and the TV tuner, the Hiphone F06 Slim is packed quad-band GSM phone. The best part is it’s only $190.”

Cell phones are so small, they can hide anywhere; they can slip in between the seats, under the seat, or into the door pocket. Your phone could even fall to the floor and find its way underneath your brake pedal; it may keep you from applying the brakes when you need them. How scary it that? How to Install Laptop RAM ( Random Access Memory )...

Installing Laptop Memory

Difficulty: Relatively simple
Time Required: 10-15 minutes

Tools Required: Precision Philips or flat-head screwdriverThis guide was developed to instruct readers on the proper procedures for installing memory modules into a laptop computer. It includes step-by-step instructions for the physical installation of a memory module into those laptop systems that have an access panel to the memory modules. Not all laptops have this type of access. If yours does not, then it will probably require installation from an authorized technician.

For additional information about installing computer memory into your computer system, it is recommended that you read any user manuals that came with your computer for specific procedures that may be required. For more information for purchasing memory upgrades for a computer, please refer to the Before You Buy Memory upgrades article.

  1. Turn off the computer and remove all power cords from the computer system.
  2. Locate the panel used for access to the memory modules. This is generally located on the bottom of the laptop computer. Refer to your laptop instruction manuals for locating the panel.
  3. Remove any screws that the panel in place and place somewhere safe to prevent losing it.
  4. Remove the panel from the laptop and set aside.
  5. If replacing or upgrading an existing memory module, remove the memory modules by undoing and module clamps and gently lifting the edge of the module to a 45-degree angle and then pulling the module out of the slot.
  6. Align the notch of the memory module with that of the memory slot and gently insert the module into the slot at a 45-degree angle.
  7. Once all the pins are in the slot, gently rotate the module down flat until the clamps lock into the module into place.
  8. Replace the memory access panel onto the laptop computer.
  9. Replace any screws or fasteners that hold the panel in place.
  10. Replace the power cord and power up your computer system.

Once the memory has been installed into the computer, the physical process is complete. When the computer is powered back up, it may be necessary to go into the computer BIOS to let the system properly detect the new RAM that has been installed in the computer. Please refer to the user manual for the computer system for any additional information

iJector: Convert Your iPhone into a Multimedia Projector...

A Japanese company LancerLink has made a docking station for iPhone/iPod touch that projects its screen on the wall. iJector is an LCOS projector having built-in stereo speakers (3W x 2ch).
We have already seen the
multimedia projector phone but we didn’t expect a dock to project the screen the king gadget, the iphone, on the wall. But iJector has promised to resolve this problem. It is just 120g and measures 195×145x96mm. It produces a display sized upt0 50 inches from 2.3m away. The display resolution is 557×234 pixels. Interestingly, iJector has got 20lumens brightness and a lamp of 30,000 hours life!
It is not only for your iPhone but also supports iPod nano generation 1/2/3, iPod Video generation 5 (30 and 50GB), iPod Classic (80GB, 160GB), iPod touch (8GB, 16 GB and 32 GB) and iPhone 3.0. Lancerlink isn’t listing the iPhone 3GS though. But obviously, 3Gs is not much different than iPhone 3G.
iJector is priced at $700 in Japan but unfortunately this lovely gadget would not be available till July 17. There’s nothing said about its availability in the US so you can buy it from
Japan Trend Shop or Geek Stuff 4 U as soon as it is released!
